Does Dieting Make You Feel Like You Are Hanging On By A Thread?

Did you ever get that feeling? The feeling that you don't have the strength to hang on one more day? The feeling that you are worn out, exhausted, anxious, disappointed, and just not able to stick with your diet just one more day?

Anyone who has dieted has experienced that moment and those feelings. So what can we do to avoid or diminish that feeling?

Let's look at a few quick helpful ideas:

1. Make sure you have set realistic weight loss goals. Take the time to really be honest with yourself and understand what you can and cannot do. You know yourself better than anyone else so set goals that you can achieve every week. Set a goal of losing between 1 - 2 lbs a week. and with each successful week you will gain momentum and confidence.

2. Don't starve yourself. Many people think that if they just don't eat or if they skip meals the weight will drop off faster. Obviously, if you don't eat you will lose weight but think of the harm you are doing to your body! The human body needs nutrients and it needs these nutrients in certain levels at at certain times. If you deprive your body of these nutrients the body breaks down and so will your health. Starving your body will also affect your mental energy and make it more difficult to maintain focus. You will find that just getting through your day will take every ounce of energy you have and you will not be able to focus on your diet and weight loss.

3. Find a support system. It has been proven that people who have a support system are far more likely to succeed in weight loss and dieting. Find people who will support and encourage you. Maybe you have a friend, family members or an on-line support group but make sure you find someone you can lean on when you need to, listen to when you are needed to, and laugh whenever you can.

4. Believe in yourself with unwavering certainty. There are going to be times when it all seems too much, that the thought of continuing your diet is more than you can bear and it seems that it is just easier to go back to the way things were. Maybe someone said something to you that hurt you and crushed your confidence, maybe you had a bad day and ate foods you had told yourself you wouldn't eat. Well SO WHAT!!!! If someone says something hurtful to you do not accept what they say. You know who you are and you know you will succeed. Push their comments aside and walk right through the words because they only have meaning if you let them. If you ate foods that you told yourself not to eat, move past the mistake. Take a few moments to think about why you ate those foods, take time to understand the underlying emotions and then move past the moment. Your success will come as you move into your future and let go of the past.

5. Visualize, visualize, visualize. OK I know this may sound strange but if you can conceive it you can achieve it. The human brain is powerful beyond our wildest understanding. It is so powerful you can use it to create your future and then your brain will push you to what you desire. Every day find a quiet restful place and for 5 minutes close your eyes and see yourself one year from today. As you do this create a detail rich, vivid, image of yourself. See yourself, what clothes are you wearing, what are the colors of the clothes, what sounds do you hear, what fragrances fill your senses? Are you walking down a street, sitting by a pool in a tropical resort? Fill this visualization with every detail you can think of and as you continue each day add more details. Make this visualization so real, so dynamic and so desirable that you have no choice but to find yourself there.

I hope this quick list is helpful. Never doubt yourself, never let anyone deter you from your goals, and move forward with pride, certainty, and focus. Each day that you follow your dream brings you one day closer to the life of your dreams.
